Educational Awards
After joining members work through the Toastmasters International educational program which provides
a framework to build on your existing communication and leadership skills. Initially you will work
towards the Competent Communicator (CC) and Competent Leader (CL) awards. After that there are
several advanced tracks to choose from. Ipswich Electrifiers have members working at all levels
in the educational track.
The Competent Communcicator manual consists of 10 projects. Each one encourages the speaker to focus
on one particular aspect of making a speech such as structure, vocal variety or how to inspire your
audience.
Personal Development
Members usually join to improve their ability to make speeches and presentations, however by
taking part in meetings and the roles available within the club you will yourself developing
many other communication and leadership skills to use in your life.
Support
Whether you are joining in with our table topics sessions to improve your impromptu speaking,
delivering a prepared speech project or take a leadership role in the meeting we'll aim to give
you helpful and supportive feedback.
Each member is entitled to a mentor within the club who will help you clarify and work towards
your goals.
As a member you will also receive the monthly Toastmasters International magazine which is full of
interesting articles and has many useful tips and hints.
Fun and Variety
You can count on variety in our meetings, speeches may be educational, thought provoking
or just entertaining and you will often get all of these in a single meeting.
Subjects are wide ranging and have included glass making, preparing for interviews,
dancing, local history and poetry readings amongst many others.
Competition
The club holds regular competitions giving winners the opportunity to compete at local, national and international level. As a club member you will have the option to compete.
Joining Us
Before joining us you're welcome to come along as a visitor for a couple of meetings to find out
more.
There is an initial joining fee of £20 and an initial subscription fee which will
cover you up to our next half-year. After that monthly subscriptions are £8 per month.
As the awards that you gain at Toastmasters are of value to your employer and they will reap the
benefits of your continuing professional development some will pay these costs for you.
